Drexel Peasant Provincial Dining Table with Mismatched Chairs

This week and next week's projects in progress are my dining table and mismatched chairs! I am so excited to get this set that is not a set completed. The lines are similar enough that they all work together but contrasting enough to bring interest!

I have had these chairs for about 2 years, I found them on Marketplace for a wonderful price. I knew I wanted to make some changes to them, however, other projects on top of working a full-time job and being a mother to two children took precedents. At some point, I would need to replace our existing dining table. It was gifted to us when we moved back to Oklahoma, we usually don't sit at the table, but use it for our crafting or really just a placeholder for all the random items we have.

I found these chairs on the Nextdoor app, I know they're in rough shape, but the bones are solid. These chairs have a dark cherry/ mahogany finish on them, I started formulating my plan to create a seamless mesh between the two chair styles. I was considering sanding all 8 chairs down and staining them with a black gel stain to help hide the deep red color from the original stain, but after sanding down one of each chair I knew the amount of work that would take would not be an ideal option. So I went back to the drawing board.

I decided it would be a good time to start considering what to do with the table. So I got to work hand sanding down the table to ensure there was no over sanding. Once I got the original finish completely removed, I used mineral spirits and wiped the table down. I was in LOVE with the way the natural wood tones looked, the middle of the table and the border of the table are slightly different shades.

The wheels were turning now! However, once I finished the two-toned boho dresser that can be seen on my IG https://www.instagram.com/cheysdesignhouse/
I now wanted to use the Flagstone Stain by Varathane for the table. So the color of the chairs is changing yet again.  I will be going with a very moody green.

Once we get the table stained and sealed I will be adding a poll to IG to help us make the final decision for the best moody green to fit in our space.

Stay tuned!
