Spray painted mess!

When I got my hands on this chest of drawers I was not excited about the task I had in front of me. It was covered in multiple colors of spray paint and had had a more traditional look to it. I decided to clean, fill the holes, and remove the bottom trim pieces before I did anything else.

The structure of this chest was in pretty good shape, it just needed a bit of help. It was constructed with particle board for the top and the frame is solid wood. My initial thought was to update the top with wood and stain it. So I picked up a sheet of plywood cut it down with my jigsaw and my circular saw and attached it to the sides and the top of the chest.

That was not the look I was going for by any means! So I decided to scrap my original idea. I removed the remaining traditional detailing from the top of the chest, fill in the holes from removing the detailing, and chose my paint.

I was tossing around the idea of a farmhouse look now that I had removed all of the traditional elements, but I had not really been a fan of distressed white and brown farmhouse styles. So I decided to go a bit more "glam modern farmhouse" with the update. I painted the drawers with an off-white that has a purple undertone and the base of the chest was refinished in a flat black. I HATED IT. I took a step back and remembered the stencils I recently purchased. Now, this was my first time using a stencil, and when I tell you this was Not an easy process at all, I love the way it turned out! I hope you do too! I decided to go with glass pulls for the top drawer and modern sleek pulls for the remaining drawers.
